Free Hindi Typing Test Online for Government Exams
Pick the Hindi layout your exam uses and take a timed test in your browser. Mangal InScript and Remington GAIL type Unicode (Mangal) Hindi, and Kruti Dev 010 is the older non-Unicode font. For reference, SSC CHSL asks for 30 WPM in Hindi, RRB NTPC 25 WPM and MP CPCT 20 net WPM. Five Hindi passages are free, with no sign-up.
Hindi typing test: choose your layout
Mangal is a font, not a keyboard arrangement. A notice that only says "Mangal" still leaves two layouts, and they put letters on different keys. Check which one your exam names before you practise.

Hindi typing speed required in government exams
Exams usually set the Hindi speed a little below the English one. These are the rules we have checked against the official notices:

Hindi typing test for 5 or 10 minutes
Exam presets run for that exam's practice time, so pick your exam in the app rather than a random timer. Most presets here run for 10 minutes, and a few, such as the UPSSSC Junior Assistant practice test, run for 5. For a longer attempt on any layout, use the 10-minute typing test.
How to practise for a Hindi typing test
- Learn where each character sits on your layout with the typing lessons before you time yourself.
- Stay on one layout. Switching between InScript, Remington GAIL and Kruti Dev undoes the finger memory you've built.
- Take a full timed test, then read the marked passage.
- Look for missing matras, wrong halant, doubled spaces and look-alike characters. Drill those words before the next attempt. The Hindi typing practice guide shows how.
- Repeat on passages you haven't seen, so your speed reflects exam conditions.

Which font is used in the Hindi typing test?
It depends on the exam. SSC CHSL requires Hindi typing in Mangal font only. RRB NTPC provides both Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts. Check the font and layout named in your own notice.
What is the Hindi typing speed for SSC?
For SSC CHSL LDC and JSA posts, 30 words per minute in Hindi, typed in 10 minutes. English candidates need 35 words per minute.
What is the Hindi typing speed for RRB NTPC?
25 words per minute in Hindi, or 30 in English, for the typist posts. The typing test is qualifying and is taken without editing tools or spell check.
Is Kruti Dev allowed in government typing tests?
In some. RRB NTPC makes Kruti Dev available alongside Mangal. SSC CHSL LDC/JSA does not: Hindi typing there must be in Mangal font, and any other font means you don't qualify.
Should I learn InScript or Remington GAIL?
Learn the one your exam names. InScript is the standard arrangement for Indian languages on a computer keyboard. Remington GAIL follows old typewriter key positions, so people who learned on a typewriter often find it familiar.
Do I need to install a Hindi keyboard?
No. The layouts in this practice app work in your browser. Use a physical computer keyboard.
Can I convert text between Mangal and Kruti Dev?
Use the font converter for existing text. Converting text does not change the keyboard layout you need to learn.
