How the score works
The test gives you an error allowance equal to 5% of the words used for scoring.
A full mistake counts as one error. A half mistake counts as half an error. After the free allowance is used, each extra error removes 10 words from your score.
Missed words are counted in groups. Repeated words are also counted in groups and left out of the word total used for scoring.
Your result shows the mistakes that were counted and the deductions made. Net WPM is worked out from the words left after those deductions, divided by the test time in minutes. The score cannot fall below zero.
Typing tip
If you make a mistake, keep going. Correction keys are disabled in this practice test, so stopping for too long will cost you time. You can check your mistakes on the result screen after the test.
RRB NTPC typing test rules and posts
Which RRB NTPC posts have a typing test?
Only the typist posts. The other NTPC posts either have no skill test or take the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT).

Is the RRB NTPC typing test qualifying?
Yes. Typing test marks aren't added to your merit. RRB calls candidates equal to eight times the vacancies in each community for the typing test, based on 2nd Stage CBT marks. Final merit for the typist posts comes from the 2nd Stage CBT, among candidates who qualify in the typing test or are exempt.
RRB NTPC typing test rules
- 30 words per minute in English or 25 in Hindi.
- Typed on a personal computer only, without editing tools or spell check.
- For Hindi, Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts are made available.
- PwBD candidates with permanent blindness or low vision, cerebral palsy or locomotor disability of at least 40% can be exempted if they upload a Medical Board certificate in the Annexure V(H) format before the typing test.
- The CENs don't say how long the test lasts. This practice test uses 10 minutes, so check the instructions with your e-call letter for your own timing.

RRB NTPC typing test questions
What typing speed is required for the RRB NTPC typing test?
30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi. Both the Graduate notice (CEN 06/2025) and the Undergraduate notice (CEN 07/2025) set the same speeds.
Which RRB NTPC posts need a typing test?
Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist at Graduate level, and Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist at Undergraduate level. Station Master and Traffic Assistant take an aptitude test instead, and the other posts have no skill test.
Are RRB NTPC typing test marks added to merit?
No. The typing test is qualifying. Merit for the typist posts comes from the 2nd Stage CBT, among candidates who pass the typing test or are exempt from it.
Can I use backspace in the RRB NTPC typing test?

Both set 30 WPM English or 25 WPM Hindi without editing tools or spell check, and neither states the test duration, so the 10-minute timer here is a practice setting.
