How the score works
Each counted mistake takes a word off your total. The words left over are what your speed is worked out from. A full mistake counts as one and a half mistake counts as half. You can go through the counted mistakes and the deductions on the result screen. The score cannot fall below zero.
Typing tips
If you make a mistake, keep going. Correction keys behave the way the table above describes, so stopping to fight one word costs you more than the word is worth. Check the result screen afterwards to see what actually went wrong.
- The source note gives passages of at least 400 English or 350 Hindi words. Do not treat that alone as the amount needed for 30/25 WPM.
- Read the marked mistakes and the resulting net speed. Do not assume a mistake is harmless because another preset deducts more.
How to practise for the Delhi Police Head Constable typing test
Keep typing practice and computer-formatting practice in separate sessions. For the copying half, use an invented line such as "Ref. DP/004: return the form by 09/10." and compare the slash, the colon and the leading zero against your copy. Do not improve its wording, reformat the date to the one you prefer, or expand an abbreviation. Those changes count as differences even when the meaning survives.
For a formatting task named in your notice, work in the application it names. Start from plain text, reproduce the specified layout, then check the saved document including line alignment and any table. Typing speed is not the result for that task.
Give the two exercises separate notes. "Missed capital after full stop" belongs to typing; "table column too narrow" belongs to formatting. Keeping them apart stops another fast passage from standing in for a computer task you still have not practised.
The source note describes a supplied passage of at least 400 English words or 350 Hindi words, which is more text than a bare 30/25 WPM target over ten minutes would suggest. The one-word-per-mistake deduction here is a practice model, not the official typing-mark bands, so read the real instructions for how completion and errors are evaluated.

How do correction keys work here?
Backspace is limited to the current word. Delete and navigation do not work. The SSC notice describes a one-word-per-mistake deduction and speed-based marks bands. This profile approximates that with its own whole-mistake counting. It does not reproduce the 25-mark scale.
Does this result establish official qualification?
