How the score works
Full mistakes count as one and half mistakes as half. The first five error units are free. Each unit after that takes five words off the words you typed, and your speed is worked out from what is left. The result screen shows which mistakes counted and what they cost. The score cannot fall below zero.
Typing tips
Keep typing when you slip. Correction keys behave the way the table above describes, so stopping to fight one word costs you more than the word is worth. Check the result screen afterwards to see what actually went wrong.
- Five error units are free before deductions start. Each unit after that costs five words.
- The window is only five minutes, so small timing differences matter more. Compare attempts of the same length only.
How to practise for the UPSSSC Junior Assistant typing test
Learn the correction boundary before a five-minute run. In a sample, type "one two three". While you are on "three", try correcting "two", then try reaching back to "one". Finding out what the controls permit before a scored session saves you from discovering it against the clock.
During the full attempt, watch for the moment a correction makes you lose your place, and review that stretch afterwards. If it keeps happening, practise the original word sequence slowly and return to the source without rereading the whole line.
A short timer makes every pause feel expensive. Resist skipping a small word to get back into rhythm, and check the marked passage to see what that omission actually cost.
The model counts full mistakes plus half of the half-mistake count. The first five error units are exempt, and each unit after that deducts five words, so five is an allowance before deductions rather than a hard maximum that fails the attempt. Backspace here corrects the current word and one previous word, which differs both from unrestricted editing and from current-word-only profiles. Try the controls before the timer and check them against your official instructions.

Does every UPSSSC post use this typing pattern?
No. This page follows the Junior Assistant pattern described in candidate guides. Other UPSSSC posts, and later recruitments, can set a different speed, time or scoring method, so read the advertisement for your post.
Is the UPSSSC typing test qualifying?
Candidate guides describe it as qualifying: you need the speed to move on, and typing marks don't add to merit. We couldn't open the official UPSSSC advertisement to confirm this on 2026-09-14.
