Which exams use Kruti Dev for Hindi typing?
Check your own notice, because exams differ and the difference matters more than your speed:
- RRB NTPC: the 2025 Graduate and Undergraduate notices say both Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts are provided for the Hindi typing test, at 25 WPM.
- UPSSSC Junior Assistant: candidate guides describe Hindi typing in Kruti Dev or Mangal. We couldn't open the official advertisement to confirm it.
- SSC CHSL: not Kruti Dev. The 2026 notice allows Hindi typing in Mangal only, and another font means you don't qualify. Use the Mangal typing test.
- CRPF HC (Ministerial): not Kruti Dev. The 2022 advertisement allows Hindi only on Remington GAIL with the Mangal font.
Kruti Dev keyboard: how it differs from Mangal
Kruti Dev 010 and Mangal Remington GAIL share many consonant keys, because both follow the old Remington typewriter, but they differ on vowel signs and some combinations. For example, + gives nukta in Kruti Dev and halant in Remington GAIL. Mangal InScript is a different arrangement altogether and follows spoken order.
Like other typewriter layouts, Kruti Dev is typed in visual order: the vowel sign ि comes before its consonant, and the half र् comes after the letters it sits over. Kruti Dev typing practice routine
- Learn the home-row keys from the key chart, then type short words without a timer.
- Drill the combinations that trip people up: ि before the consonant, half letters, and र् after the cluster.
- Take the full 10-minute test and read the marked passage afterwards.
- Practise the words behind your repeated mistakes, then take a new passage.
- Don't switch between Kruti Dev, Remington GAIL and InScript during one week of practice. The key memory doesn't transfer cleanly.

Which exams use Kruti Dev for the Hindi typing test?
RRB NTPC's 2025 notices say both Kruti Dev and Mangal are provided. Candidate guides say UPSSSC Junior Assistant allows Kruti Dev too. SSC CHSL accepts Mangal only, and CRPF HC (Ministerial) uses Remington GAIL with Mangal, so don't practise Kruti Dev for those.
Is Kruti Dev the same as Mangal Remington GAIL?
No. They share many consonant keys, but vowel signs and some combinations sit on different keys. Mangal is a Unicode font and Kruti Dev is a legacy font, so practise the one your notice names.
Do I need to install the Kruti Dev font to practise?
No. The test maps your keys to Kruti Dev characters in the browser. To type Kruti Dev in Word or other programs you do need the font installed on your computer.
Is Kruti Dev 010 the same as DevLys 010?
They are different fonts on the same key encoding, so every key gives the same character in both. Practice on one carries over to the other.
What typing speed do I need in a Kruti Dev Hindi typing test?
RRB NTPC asks for 25 words per minute in Hindi. Other exams set their own speed, so check your notice.
