Shortlisted for a typing test? Read the next-stage instructions
After finding your name or roll number in a result, open the recruiting authority's instructions for the next stage. The result list alone may not explain the typing task.
The advertisement number matters more than the post title
Two cycles of the same post can run different rules — a CHSL LDC vacancy from 2023 and one from 2026 aren't guaranteed to share a timer or a speed target. Match the advertisement number and recruitment cycle printed on your result to the skill-test notice, admit card instructions and any corrigendum before you assume anything carries over. Where they disagree, the authority's own published contact route settles it, not a coaching page.
Five things worth writing down before you practise
- Language, or which languages you're allowed to choose between.
- Keyboard arrangement, plus the exact font it names — Kruti Dev and Mangal aren't interchangeable even for the same script.
- Duration, and whether the target is WPM or a raw key count like KDPH.
- How errors are handled and which correction keys stay active.
- Whether this stage is qualifying only or actually feeds into your final marks.
A post with a name close to yours is not evidence for any of these five — each notice sets its own numbers.
Then pick a practice profile that matches

What each document actually tells you
A result list and a skill-test instruction do different jobs. Confusing the two is how people arrive at a typing test having practised the wrong format.
