PSSSB Typing Test Rules
Advertisement No. 02 of 2026 asks Clerk candidates for 30 words per minute in both English and Punjabi, Punjabi typed in the Unicode font Raavi. The test is qualifying: passing it is compulsory, but it adds nothing to your merit position, which comes from the written paper. The Board publishes the detailed mechanics separately, before each test, and it has not published them for this cycle yet.

Two different kinds of document set the PSSSB typing rules, and mixing them up is the usual reason candidates arrive with the wrong expectation. The advertisement states the requirement. A separate instruction sheet, issued a few days before the test itself, states the mechanics: how long you type, how many mistakes are allowed and how the passage appears on screen. This page keeps the two apart.

What the Board's own typing instructions set
Before each Clerk typing test the Board issues a sheet titled "Important Instructions for Candidates regarding Typing Test". Three of them are on the Board's site, covering the 2021, 2022 and 2023 recruitments. Their general and typing-speed sections are word for word identical on every point below, so these mechanics have been stable across three cycles. They are not, however, issued under Advertisement No. 02 of 2026.

Read these as the Board's settled practice, not as this cycle's rule. Advertisement No. 02 of 2026 has its own instruction sheet still to come. The Clerk written examination sits in the 6 to 13 October 2026 block, so the typing instructions cannot appear before that. Check the Board's site for the sheet issued under your own advertisement number and treat it as final wherever it differs from the table above.

Our PSSSB Clerk practice profile follows the 10-minute duration, the 30 words per minute target, the 8% mistake limit and Punjabi on Gurmukhi InScript. It does not reproduce the ten-chunk screen: the passage runs continuously instead, and there is no 80% advance rule and no skipping penalty. That is a real difference in how the test feels, so rehearse the chunk behaviour from the Board's own sheet when it is published for your cycle.

Preparing for the Punjabi half
The Punjabi test is the half most candidates lose. Raavi is a Unicode font, so the text survives copy and paste and looks right anywhere with a Gurmukhi font installed, but you still have to know where the characters sit.
