Practising on a phone with a physical keyboard
A phone or tablet can serve as the screen for practice if a compatible physical keyboard works with its browser. Check the input before starting a timed passage.
Test the connection
Connect a compatible USB keyboard through the appropriate adapter, or pair a Bluetooth keyboard. In a text field, try letters, numbers, Shift, Space and Backspace. Compatibility depends on the device, adapter and browser.
Place the screen where you can read the passage without holding it. Then open the typing app and check a short sample with the layout you intend to use.
For Hindi, check the input method too
The phone's phonetic keyboard may suggest Hindi words from Roman letters. That is different from physical InScript or Remington typing. Choose the layout in the app and compare a few combinations with the key chart. If the operating system is also converting your input, change its physical-keyboard input setting and test again.
What to do if keys behave differently
A mobile browser or operating system can intercept shortcuts before the page receives them. If letters, modifiers or correction keys do not behave as expected, use a desktop or laptop for the timed attempt. Do not treat a result from a malfunctioning keyboard setup as a useful speed measurement.
Include practice on a computer when preparing for a computer-based test. A phone screen and touch keyboard do not reproduce that working setup.
What works on a phone or tablet
A touchscreen keyboard cannot reproduce a typing exam. A physical keyboard attached to a phone or tablet sometimes can, depending on the setup.

Before a timed attempt, type a line containing a capital, a comma, a full stop and a number. If any of those need a modifier key that does not register, the device is not usable for exam practice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I practise for a typing exam on my phone?
Only with a physical keyboard attached, and only for English in most cases.
A touchscreen keyboard teaches none of the finger positions the exam tests, and autocorrect silently fixes the mistakes you need to see.
Does Hindi typing work on mobile?
InScript sometimes does. Remington GAIL and Kruti Dev usually do not.
If your exam names either of those, practise on a computer.
Will a mobile result match a desktop one?
Not reliably.
Keyboard size, key travel and how the browser handles modifier keys all differ. Compare results only within the same setup.
