Find your gap before you set a target
Run one untimed five-minute attempt in the language you will actually sit for and note two numbers: net WPM and the count of mistakes by type (missed word, wrong word, spelling). A candidate typing 30 WPM with three spelling slips needs a different next session than one typing 30 WPM with two skipped words — the first should slow down and read each word once before moving on, the second should practise return-to-passage after a distraction.
Only once that gap is named should the 10-minute timer come on. Running the timer before you know which error you make most just produces a score without a next step. If you are stuck below the target, the typing speed guide matches the symptom to the drill rather than adding more random passages.
Why an easy passage inflates your number
A passage you have typed three times already will read faster than the one you get on test day, because your eyes are predicting the next word instead of reading it. Alternate: one repeat passage to drill a specific fix, then one passage you have never seen, timed the full ten minutes. If the gap between the two is more than a few WPM, the repeat-passage number was not telling you the truth about exam day.
Keep the two attempts on separate lines in your own notes, by language. A 35 WPM Hindi result says nothing about your English result if English is what you selected in your application, and the reverse is equally true.
Finish attempts you start badly
Let a bad opening sentence run to the end of the ten minutes rather than restarting. The last two minutes of a passage, when concentration is lowest, are exactly where an exam attempt is decided — a practice log built entirely from clean restarts never rehearses that part.
