How your score is calculated
Wrong, omitted, extra, repeated or incomplete words are full mistakes; spacing, capitalisation and punctuation are half mistakes. Net WPM is your gross speed minus every mistake, with no separate error-percentage cap — every mistake costs you directly rather than being forgiven up to a threshold. Your result screen shows each detected mistake and the practice formula applied to your attempt. This result is not an official exam result.
Worked example: At 35 WPM over 10 minutes you need 350 net words. Type 370 words with 15 mistakes: net = 370 − 15 = 355 words ÷ 10 minutes = 35.5 WPM — a pass. Push mistakes to 25 on the same 370 words: net = 345 ÷ 10 = 34.5 WPM — a fail, despite typing more raw words than the 350-word target, because BSSC has no error-percentage buffer to absorb the extra mistakes.
Tips for the BSSC (Inter Level) typing test
BSSC's Remington GAIL Hindi layout is a real point of confusion — several competitor tools default to InScript instead.
- Confirm you're practising Remington GAIL, not InScript. The two layouts place characters on different keys — practising the wrong one wastes real preparation time.
- Since there's no error buffer, prioritise accuracy from the start. A clean 33 WPM often beats a fast 37 WPM riddled with mistakes.
- Practise the full English-then-Hindi sequence together. The real test runs both languages back-to-back with only a short interval — don't only ever practise them in isolation.
- Use the live highlighting to your advantage. The official software marks correct/incorrect words as you go — get comfortable glancing at that feedback without losing rhythm.
