## How the score works

The CPCT typing test counts only words you type exactly right. A wrong word earns nothing, and nothing extra is taken off for it. Your speed is the correct words divided by the minutes you typed. The result screen marks each wrong word so you can see what didn't count.

If you are choosing a practice site, [Class CPCT compared with other CPCT practice tools](https://sarkariexamtyping.com/class-cpct-alternative.html) sets out how each one scores and what its test screen looks like.

## English vs. Hindi requirement, side by side

| | English | Hindi |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Speed requirement | 30 NWPM | 20 NWPM |
| Duration | 15 minutes | 15 minutes |
| Layout | QWERTY | Mangal InScript or Mangal Remington GAIL, chosen at application |
| Approx. words for a pass | ~450 correct words | ~300 correct words |

## Typing tips

If you make a mistake, keep going. Correction keys behave the way the table above describes, so stopping to fight one word costs you more than the word is worth. Check the result screen afterwards to see what actually went wrong.

- Check whether corrections helped you finish more correct text. Correcting a mistake does not always cost speed.
- Check the Hindi arrangement selected for your CPCT assessment. Extra app layouts do not prove which ones the authority accepts.

## How to practise for the CPCT typing test

Try a correction exercise outside the timer first. In a plain editor, type "Please return the signed form." If "signed" comes out as "singed", fix it and check that you pick up again at "form" rather than typing "signed" twice. What you are watching for is whether correcting costs you your place.

Then take a full attempt on the CPCT settings and read the correct-word count next to the marked passage. If much of the attempt went into moving backwards, work on the combinations that triggered those corrections. If you left errors you could have fixed on the spot, practise a clean correction and a return to the source.

Keep English and Hindi results apart. A comfortable English session tells you nothing about whether Hindi conjuncts are breaking your pace. Net speed here is exactly correct words divided by the attempt's duration, so compare counts only across attempts with similar text and settings.

Editing is allowed in this preset, so weigh the time you spent correcting against the correct words it recovered. Read the current CPCT instructions for the language sections, the permitted keyboard and the editing controls. The layouts available here do not reproduce every official setting, and a passage exercise covers only the text-entry part of the assessment.

For Hindi key combinations and matras, see the [Hindi typing guide](https://sarkariexamtyping.com/hindi-typing-practice-guide.html). The [scoring guide](https://sarkariexamtyping.com/typing-test-scoring.html) explains the speed and error figures shown in your practice result.

## Keyboard layouts

English practice uses QWERTY. For Hindi, CPCT's own FAQ says the available layouts are Remington GAIL and InScript, both in Unicode, so those are the two offered here. You choose one in your CPCT application form and changing it later costs Rs 50, so practise on the layout you actually picked. Kruti Dev is not a CPCT layout and is not offered on this page; if you want it for another reason, use the [Kruti Dev typing test](https://sarkariexamtyping.com/hindi-krutidev-typing-test.html). For help choosing between the two accepted arrangements, read the [CPCT Hindi typing guide](https://sarkariexamtyping.com/cpct-hindi-typing-test.html), or compare the key positions in the [Hindi keyboard layout comparison](https://sarkariexamtyping.com/hindi-keyboard-layouts.html).

## CPCT typing test questions

**What typing speed do I need in CPCT?**

The CPCT Rule Book lists minimum passing scores of 30 net words per minute in English and 20 in Hindi. CPCT reports a score, and recruiting departments set their own cut-offs, so check what your department requires.

**Which Hindi keyboard is used in the CPCT typing test?**

Mangal InScript or Mangal Remington GAIL, chosen when you apply. Practise on the one you picked, because the two layouts put Hindi letters on different keys. The [Mangal font typing test](https://sarkariexamtyping.com/hindi-mangal-typing-test.html) covers both.

**Can I practise the CPCT Hindi typing test on Remington GAIL?**

Yes, and it is one of only two layouts CPCT accepts. The official CPCT FAQ says the available Hindi layouts are Remington GAIL and InScript, both in Unicode. You pick one in your application form, so practise on that one.

**How long is a CPCT scorecard valid?**

The official CPCT website says the scorecard is valid for 7 years from the date of the exam.

**Does this cover the whole CPCT exam?**

No. It practises the English and Hindi typing sections only. The CPCT computer proficiency questions aren't included here, so prepare for those separately.

**What targets does this practice test use?**

English QWERTY is set to 30 net words per minute and the two Hindi layouts to 20, matching the minimum passing scores in the CPCT Rule Book. Only correct words count, with no extra deduction for wrong words. Recruiting departments set their own cut-offs.

**How do correction keys work here?**

Backspace works normally here. That matches CPCT's no-deduction scoring style. It is still this app's configuration choice. It is not an independent re-verification of the assessment terminal.

**Does this result establish official qualification?**

No. CPCT reports its own certificate score through the assessment authority. This page only gives you a practice number for comparing attempts.

**Can I use Kruti Dev in the CPCT typing test?**

No. The official CPCT FAQ lists the available Hindi layouts as Remington GAIL and InScript, both in Unicode. Kruti Dev is a legacy non-Unicode font and is not one of them, which is why this page does not offer it for CPCT.

**How long is the CPCT exam in total?**

The official exam schedule puts the whole sitting at 130 minutes: 75 minutes of multiple-choice questions, a 5-minute English typing mock, the 15-minute English typing test, a 10-minute Hindi mock, the 15-minute Hindi typing test, and short breaks between sections. Differently abled candidates get 165 minutes.

**Is there a practice run before the CPCT typing test?**

Yes. The exam schedule gives a 5-minute mock before the English typing test and a 10-minute mock before the Hindi one. CPCT also puts a mock on its own portal that it describes as a replica of the test screen.

**Can I change my CPCT keyboard layout after applying?**

Only through the paid Edit Application facility, which the official FAQ prices at Rs 50 and opens for two or three days after applications close. After that the layout is fixed, so decide early and practise on it.
